I pull out my phone and stare at it for a while;
But I know not what I have been waiting for.
I go to the inbox and to a conversation;
That has been cold for hours and some more.
My thumb hurries to open the keyboard;
And begins to type a one-word note.
But before it is done and can click on “send”;
I realize the true meaning of what I wrote.
This wouldn’t be a message sent to bring;
A cold conversation back to new life.
It also holds in itself the power to stir;
And to bring the people involved to a strife.
I know I need to let you have your time;
To study, prepare and do well in the test.
That’s the reason I can’t ring your phone;
But rather should let you revise and rest.
The message I typed had just your name;
But it did say a lot more than that.
It said “I missed you” and “I was sad”;
It also said “I know you are there and I am glad”.
